Here are some more Olympic stories for you if you can’t get enough.
As the curtains come down on the Rio Olympic games, many are left taking stock, some on the mega scale while others are on a far smaller scale, Brazilians maybe getting ready to tally up the real cost but; not so fast one might say. For those who have had their fill of it as well as those wanting more, Brazil is getting ready to welcome a lot more athletes and patrons from around the world for the Paralympics which is set to start on Sep. 7th and will run over 11 days of competition. As was the case with the Olympic Games, the 2016 edition of the Paralympic Games will be the first to be staged in the continent of South America. They will also be the first Games to feature the sports of canoeing and para-triathlon.
How about these? Here are just a few of the strangest sports in Olympic history:
Midget or Little People Tossing
Rhythmic Shake Weight Lifting (banned for sexually suggestive content
Slam Poetry (100-word, 200-word and marathon) I kinda like this one for some reason.
Mixed Doubles Adultery. Now what could this be about? Hmm.
Olympic Medal Receiving (1976 – 1984; a variation on this event included the TV camera panning randomly around the audience and giving medals to whomever it was pointed at when the music stopped) So by just showing up at the game one stands a great chance of coming away with an Olympic medal? I like the sound of that too.
Backwards Running (2012), Freestyle Knitting (1956). Yes these have all been featured events at the Olympics at some point believe it or not. Read more. Source; Robotbutt.com
