On continuing, Donald told the court how, after he’d avail himself the time to review the ticket, he noticed a number of things which were both alarming on the one hand and encouraging on the other, the first and the encouraging part, as he told the court was; the place where this “act” was supposed to have taken place; at the corner of Brochu and Meloche. Right away said Donald, I knew that that would be one of the strong points of my defense because, the only thing I did at the corner of Brochu and Meloch was obeyed the policeman’s signals to stop. I don’t think that’s an offence under the law or the highway safety code. Then there was the amount, what could that “act” possibly be that I might have committed that, though it was not important enough to be specified here, it amounts to the sum of $430.00. and finally why did it became necessary to go and modify the statements after it was made known that I was contesting, and in the process of modifying, a whole slew of other offences were added any one of which, if it was committed would constitute a valid offence which could easily be specifically identified without the maze of ambiguity which seems to surround this particular "act“. Of which this officer wrote and spoke. The prosecutor, I think that what he is called then ask Donald a questions or two; how far were your vehicle travelling behind the police car? Donald who is not very good with measurements said he was about 21/2 to 3 cars length. The judge then remark that he will need to do a quick review before rendering his verdict, he told Donald that he may wait for the verdict or he could go, and it will be mailed to him later having something do that afternoon Donald leaving the cop still sitting at the same spot where he had seated himself. Several weeks later the letter came in the mail, "Acquitted". Danny who had just barely made it through high school, felt like a top notch lawyer for what it was worth on that day. Donald has yet one more thing to on the matter before putting it to rest though; on his next day at work, Donald make sure to take the letter with him to show to the nay-sayers who’d said that he couldn’t win well, there was the evidence in his hand, not only that he could, but that he did.
It was a mystic moments for Donald one he will never forget but that wasn't the end of the for him as far as his encounters with police on the job as a school bus drive, there will be other days and other encounters, so be sure to come again to these pages to see what's next with Danny and the cops. The story continues.
