A whale of a freelancer Clancy is turning out to be. Clancy has been working with the backing band at Club Jamaican. They practice on Saturday evenings, the most inappropriate day of the week, being just a day after the real performance but it's the only time that all the elements come together that make it happen.
So far, it seems to be working just fine. The band "for the most part" seems to be interested in his pitch to them in joining him in the north coast ventures.
All but Bagga is enthusiastic about the idea, but Bagga-mouth (as is to be expected) is concerned about the fate of the club Jamaica brand if the guys should take to the roads.
"Time fi step up de game guys" Luke the bassist said attempting to help the others make up their minds. Now all seem to have the north coast on their minds.
Clancy got up from the table and turn around to open the refrigerator door which was right behind him he reached inside for the container of orange juice, poured some for his mother then for himself before sitting himself back down at the table, the jug still resting on the table in front of him.
It's been many months since they sat down and ate together like a family, both knew it and neither want to open the conversation first.
So how are things going with you and your... "music thing" She heard herself saying?
Pretty good mom pretty good, matter of fact I want to tell you about that and a few other things.
Mom I'm sorry for letting you down....
Letting me down?
Well; said Clancy, I know this wasn't what you had in mind for me.... for us but it may not be as bad as it appears at first sight.
Mom I'm doing okay, we are going to be alright. That includes you mom... and me... us he corrected himself as both their eyes locked in on that phrase "us"
Ms. Johnson caught a glimpse of the deeper meaning of the word... what do you mean by "us"?
Us as a family; our family is growing mom.
What are you saying Clancy?
After a brief pause, Clancy looking aside so as to avoid the direct gaze of his mother's soul-searching eyes said...
You are going to be a grandmother.
What? What have you done now? Is this what I sent you to school for? Is this how I raised you to go around having babies all over the place?
Ma, ma, MA, will you just stop and listen to me.... please?
It's not like that no it's not like that. Debbie and I...
So it's her isn't it? Silly me.
Mom, hear me out on this please… thank you, as I was saying, Debbie and I have come a long way since the first time I met her, ah… he smiled, it was the day of Bob's funeral that I saw her for the first time.
Nothing has been the same since.
You telling me, said Ms. Johnson.
Like I said, Clancy continued; things changed and change again. He took a deep breath, I love her mom, I really do. Ms. Johnson "bit her lips", she has a thousand things to say but she was now committed to hearing him out though painful it may be.
She's the one who has been behind all of this said Clancy, she made it happen, make me believe that it could and believe me mom, it is, it's happening fa real.
That's it for today folks, be back here tomorrow for the continuing saga of Clancy and his Shenanigans. And as always, tell a friend about us and leave a comment in the space provided below.
